Diploma in Public health

The programme equips students with skills to respond to public health issues in the community.  The Program therefore signifies the primary aims of building up a student community aiming at careers in public health, healthcare, and other health related professions.

Certificate in Counselling

The programme is intended to develop students’ competencies in counselling to enable them offer quality and professional counselling services in various settings with the view of improving the quality of life. Upon successful completion, the student can progress to a Diploma in Counselling at Mildmay Uganda.

Certificate in Comprehensive HIV Counselling and Management

The course develops students’ competencies in effective counselling as part of a holistic and integrated health service delivery. It develops particular skills in HIV Counselling

Diploma in Counselling

The programme aims to provide students with the fundamental knowledge and skills in counselling and endow them with essential techniques and theories of counselling.

To further develop counselling skills, this course is structured in a way to encourage and support personal growth and self-awareness. Thus helps students to work with diverse cliental issues and work diligently by respecting cultural values and beliefs.

Upon successful completion, the student can progress to a Bachelor’s Degree in Counselling and Behavioural Sciences.

Certificate in Medical Records and Health Informatics

The course builds student’s competence in providing efficient and effective Medical Records and Health Information Services within health facilities and organisations to facilitate provision of quality of health care services.

Diploma in Medical Records and Health Informatics

The course builds student’s competence in providing efficient and effective Medical Records and Health Information Services within health facilities and organisations to facilitate provision of quality of health care services.

Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology

The course develops skills in investigative and diagnostic laboratory practice for both advanced and lower level laboratories. Courses of study guide the student to adopt the required professional attitudes and approaches.

Microbiology, Parasitology Haematology, Blood transfusion, Clinical Chemistry, Management & Entrepreneurship and Practical sessions.

Assignments, Practical work, lectures and attachments are used to build students’ competences. The course is examined by the Uganda Allied Health Examination Board.

Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology

The course develops skills in investigative and diagnostic laboratory practice for both advanced and lower level laboratories. Courses of study guide the student to adopt the required professional attitudes and approaches.

Competencies are developed in critical areas such as Microbiology, Parasitology, Clinical Chemistry, Haematology, Immunohematology, GLP, Histopathology, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Social psychology, Primary health care, ICT, General laboratory Methods, Laboratory management, Entrepreneurship, First Aid and Research methods.

Higher Diploma in Geriatrics and Gerontology

The course equips participants with knowledge and skills needed to provide effective and efficient care for older persons. Areas covered include;-

  • The aging process
  • Physiology of aging
  • Becoming a care giver
  • Care planning and management
  • Palliative care needs of older persons

Diploma in Community HIV Care and Management (validated by Mbarara University of Science & Technology)

This course demonstrates a community-based approach to managing HIV/AIDS and other emerging health priorities. It develops competences of health care professionals in designing, implementing and evaluating community projects.

It is taken over a period of 18 months and comprises of six compulsory modules with an average of 10 weeks in between modules when students are expected to work on assignments as well as apply acquired knowledge to practice. The course does not require one to resign his/her job but rather undertaken as they continue with their employment.
