The Minister of Education and Sports, Hon Janet K. Museveni has pledged her ministry’s support towards implementation of Mildmay Uganda’s 30-Year Master Plan that will contribute towards the achievement of quality health care to the people of Uganda in relation to Uganda’s vision 2040.

This was revealed in a speech read for her by Minister In-Charge of General Duties, Office of the Prime Minister, Hon Mary Busingye Karooro Okurut while passing out 120 graduands during the first graduation ceremony of Mildmay Institute of Health Sciences (MIHS) on 31st August 2018 at the main campus in Lweza.

I commend Mildmay Uganda for establishing this institute and continuously nurturing the growth and enabling it to effectively contribute to towards development of Human Resource for Health, Health Systems Strengthening and Research,” said the Hon Janet Museveni.

Dr. Eve Kasirye-Alemu, Chairperson Governing Council MIHS, urged the graduands to create impact through saving lives. “On behalf of the MIHS Council, I take this opportunity to sincerely congratulate you upon this big achievement. You have acquired education and skills that provide you with a wide range of things you can do and options to create employment for yourself and earn a living. This is possible, but only if you keep eyes open for opportunities”.

Edith Akankwasa, Principal MIHS said the Institute exists to contribute to the transformation of health service delivery through hands-on context based education, training and research. She said; “Our Programmes are specifically designed to contribute to the strengthening of health systems that form the backbone of national health workforce and economic development. We are committed to transforming the students into health professionals that not only support delivery of quality health services but also Leaders in their own right”. She implored the graduands to understand that their success is not only determined by what’s given to them, how hard they try or how far they push.”


Graduands comprised of in-service health professionals from different fields including Bachelors in Health and Social System Management(in partnership with Manchester University), Higher Diplomas in Peadiatric Palliative Care, Higher Diplomas in Child Counselling, Diplomas in Community HIV &AIDS Care and Management, Diplomas in Health and Social Systems Management, Diplomas in Medical Laboratory and Certificates in Comprehensive HIV Care & Management.

Mildmay Institute of Health Sciences is a recognized institution of higher learning accredited by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), Uganda Allied Health Examination Board (UAHEB) and the Uganda Nurses and Midwifery Council.
